As we are heading into the last weeks of February, Spring Cleaning and “fresh” will be huge buzz words! There is something about Spring that is just refreshing. Maybe its the rain? Or the flowers blooming? I’m not entirely sure, but its renewing and a common practice for everyone to clean out, reset and freshen up. This got me thinking, we “freshen” up our stuff, but not really our relationships. We could probably all use a fun little refresh with our spouse, so here are 5 Ways to Freshen Up Your Marriage.
Start At The Beginning
One of the first things I think of when saying the word fresh is starting at the beginning. A relationship is new and fresh in those first precious months. You are excited to just be around each other. The butterflies are out and everything is peachy. Go back to that place. Physically and emotionally. Physically go back to where you met, where you had your first date or even recreate those moments. If for some reason, you can’t physically go back to these places – reminisce together. Then emotionally go back to the beginning. What was the first thing that attracted you to your spouse? Think about those feelings and those emotions.
De-Clutter
Yep, thats right, simplify. Are there things in your life that are getting in the way of your marriage? Do you not have time for date nights anymore because of busy schedules? Do you not really talk at night due to television shows or cell phones? Really evaluate if you need to put technology down a little more for your relationship, or make time for date nights.
Clean, Clean, Clean
When you “freshen up your marriage” think about cleaning. Take time to put effort into your marriage. Is there an area you two can improve on? Do you need to get on the same page with your finances? Or do you need to improve your communication? Take this time to invest in your marriage. Maybe you even need to go away for a relaxing weekend with just the two of you.
Go On Adventures
These can be small adventures like hunting down the best fries in your town to going for walk down a new trail. There is just something about an adventure that draws your closer together through the experience. This can be things like going on big trips together as well. My husband and I love traveling together and making memories. Even ‘staycations’ are great adventures.
Be Spontaneous
This one is hard for me and Kevin because we are both Type A, creatures of routine. We thrive in routine. However, you need a little spontaneity in your life to freshen things up. Don’t just always do the same thing over and over. Pick new places to eat, try new activities – think outside of the box.
I hope this really helps you on the road to freshen up your marriage. Taking the time and effort to invest in your marriage is HUGE! Spring is the perfect time to reset and reconnect with your spouse! Take advantage of it!
