This post is sponsored by the American Cancer Society; however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
It seems like almost everyone I know has been affected by cancer in one way or another – through a parent, sibling, grandparent, family member, or friend. Over the past several years, most of you know, both sides of our family have dealt with difficult diagnosis’ through my Aunt’s brain tumor and my sister-in-law’s breast cancer. Cancer now holds a whole new meaning for our family and our world is forever turned upside down. When someone you love is effected by this awful disease, you feel helpless – but the one thing I learned is that you can always do something. To me, every dollar raised is a dollar that goes toward possibly finding a new drug, a new method, a new surgery in hopes that it would change the world. Today, I wanted to share with you how The American Cancer Society (ACS), is making it easy for everyone to make a difference!
The American Cancer Society is constantly finding ways to help and now they came out with a great way to turn your everyday passions into purpose through creative fundraisers that make a big impact in the fight against cancer. The platform is called Raise Your Way and invites you to raise money, your way to help make a difference.
Since our story involves our whole family, I thought it would be fun to share 5 Fundraiser Ideas for the whole family to hopefully help inspire you to create one with your family!
Bake Sale
I don’t know about you, my kids love to help out in the kitchen. Their favorite thing to do is help me make homemade cookies. This got me thinking about a fun bake sale fundraiser. You can easily get the whole family involved in the kitchen then sell your good to neighbors and friends to raise money for your fundraiser. This is such a great way to instill service in your kids and gives you the opportunity to talk to them about why this is so important.
Play-A-Thon
This is a slightly out of the box idea but instead of a walkathon, you can host a “play-a-thon” to encourage kids to get outside and play for a cause! Having outside time is so important for kids and you can get a great group of people together to do this weekly!
Family Game Night
You could also host a fun family game night with friends that would benefit your fundraiser. Think bingo, candy land and other kid friendly games so that they can participate as well. You could sell tickets to the game night, then even have concessions set up to help raise funds. I love this idea because if you all went out to dinner, you would spend a lot of money anyways and by having a game night in – all the money can go toward your fundraiser!
Family Pictures
You all know we love taking pictures and my photographer is amazing, but I know a lot of friends who aren’t ready to invest in professional pictures or have the time for a full session. You could opt for a fun backdrop or picture stand and take family pictures to raise money for your fundraiser. This is such a simple way to provide friends with great family pictures and have them donate to the cause!
Pizza Night
Love hosting dinner? Having a pizza night is also a great way to raise money. You can order in and have friends over to help raise money – maybe even make it into a movie night! Also, a lot of local pizza places like to partner with fundraisers like this as well, so you could maybe even host at a pizza place!
Tips on how to get started
The first thing to do is brainstorm what you are passionate about. For us, spending time with family and friends came to mind first, so we brainstormed our ideas off of this. Next, check out the Raise Your Way platform by ACS. The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a non-profit dedicated to eliminating cancer. They have such a great mission to save lives and celebrate lives, all while leading the fight for a world without cancer. They approach their mission from a variety of angles by raising funds for research, as well as, providing treatment, programs and services.
