The day after I found out I was pregnant with Brooke, I started my research on books to read because we were going on vacation the following week and I wanted some good reading material. Luckily, I found a few great books to take with us that Kevin and I both enjoyed. Most of you probably know that I worked in Children’s Ministry for the past five and half years, so a few of these are from my experience working in ministry and a few are from my parenting experience. My list really isn’t in any order, I feel like each of these brings something different to the table.
Happiest Baby On The Block
I got this book about half way through my pregnancy with Brooke and LOVED it! It was full of the most practical advice for soothing your baby. I also highly recommend this for new dads to read. The five areas are easy to remember and just very practical for the infant stages. Such a valuable read!
Shepherding A Child’s Heart
This was the very first book I read when I found out I was pregnant with Brooke. While I loved the read getting ready to be a parent, I think it is better for parents 2 years and up. I have been thinking about re-reading this lately!
Grace Based Parenting
This was one of our most heavily recommended parenting books when I worked in Children’s Ministry. It is such a great resource and I highly recommend you and your spouse going through it together. Again, while it is a good read for pregnancy, it is more effective I think once your children are 2+.
The Mission of Motherhood
This is another great read and so filling for your mom heart. It really speaks into your role as a mom and is so encouraging. Being a mom really is such a calling and mission field and this book really speaks to that.
Power of A Praying Parent
I love this author. The first book I read by her was Power of a Praying Wife and it was amazing. This book is also a great resource for praying for your children. There are tons of other great “praying” book that she has written as well that are so great!
