Moms, we have all been there. The worry comes so easy. We watch the monitor to make sure their little chest is moving, we double check the car seat buckle, we are the last to eat, and we turn our heads toward them at every sound. While becoming a mom has been the biggest joy and blessing in my life, it has also brought a whole new dimension of worry, fear, anxiety and exhaustion to my life. I have had to work on taking my thoughts captive and turning them toward Christ. I do this through actively saying scripture to myself and through lots of prayer. I have to remind myself to think on these things daily… (which I also get from Philippians 4:8 – whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.)
Here are 5 Verses Mom Should Memorize for their peace of mind and walk with Christ:
For when you are overcome with worry…
The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley,I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. – Psalm 23
Like I mentioned above, worry comes A LOT – especially with your first baby. You worry about what brand of diapers to buy, if they have a cough, if they are crying too much – you name it – you worry. I like this verse because honestly as I say it out loud, it calms my soul. By the time I get through the second sentence, I can feel my heart becoming still and calm. There is so much power in the living WORD.
Those days mommin’ is hard…
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. – James 1:2–4
Some days are hard. Some days, there are more timeouts and tears than laughter. Some days, you feel like you have said “no” all day. Some days, you have cleaned up pee, poop, throw up and toys more times than you can count. Being a parent is HARD. It tests you in every way, especially your patience.
When you are exhausted…
Come to me [Jesus], all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. – Matthew 11:28–29
I’ve never felt exhaustion like I have with kids (especially the newborn phase). I felt like a walking zombie for the first few weeks with both kids. Thank goodness for Jesus and coffee. Yes, and moms that come change diapers. But, in all seriousness, this verse helps remind me to also take time for me spiritually. I need rest. I need rest in Jesus. I need quiet time and time to renew my soul.
In the every day grind…
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. – Proverbs 22:6
This verses helps me in the grind. It reminds me that I am doing important work raising my kids in Christ. It reminds me that the day-to-day little things matter. Keep pressing in and doing a good work.
As a reminder to be in prayer…
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him. – 1 John 5:14-15
This verse reminds me to be in prayer for my family, my kids, my marriage, my spouse and myself in all of those roles. There is so much power in prayer and God has given me this amazing gift of communicating with Him.
