While I love a long prayer session where I can focus on a full list of prayers in my notebook or mind, with two tiny toddlers running around and our busy schedule, my prayer life tends to look more like a lot of little prayers spread throughout the day. Don’t get me wrong, I so cherish devoted time in prayer and think it is amazing, but my typical day is filled with little prayers like you will find below. I love praying scripture as well, because I think it is important to have God’s word and truth on your mind and in your heart. Here are a few that can hopefully get you started.
Loving Christ
Lord, I pray that I would love you with all of my heart. I pray that I would seek you daily and strive to have a more present relationship with you. My desire is to put you at the center of my life and my heart. I know that all else flows from my relationship with you. I pray that I would share your name, share your love and share your grace. I love you Lord. Amen.
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. – Matthew 22:37
Loving My Husband
Lord, I pray that I would love my husband well, as you love us. I pray that I would be patient, kind, not proud, not self-seeking, not easily angered and keep no record of wrongs. I pray that I would always have a soft heart toward my husband and a listening ear. I pray that I would see the best in him, I pray that I would love him unconditionally. I pray that we would continue to grow together toward you and toward each other. Amen.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Patience
Lord, I confess that I am an impatient person. I can be quick to speak and easily angered. I can moody and just flat out have a bad attitude. At these times, I pray that you would gently remind me to slow down – have joy and be kind. Lord, grant me patience that only comes from you. I pray that I would seek joy, calmness and peace.
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. – James 1:19
Contentment
Lord, this world is heavy. This world is full of “wants”. It is full of things that distract me from what is important. I pray for contentment. I pray that I would seize the moment and enjoy today. I pray that I wouldn’t wish away time, but stop and enjoy it. I pray that I would seek you for peace. Amen.
I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. – Philipians 4:11
Needs/Hard Times
Lord, Hard times come. Most times, I am not prepared for hardship. Most times, I wish it away. If i’m honest, I don’t want to face trials. I have seen much grief and sadness in this world, but Lord, I have seen your goodness. May I focus on you, your love and your peace. Lord, you alone can bring joy in the storm. You alone are good. Amen.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. – James 1:2-3
Control
Lord, you know I am a planner. I like each day carefully planned out. I like to know what is going to happen. Lord, may I release this control to you. I know that I can have a million plans, but yours is better. Yours is great. You establish my steps and I want to rest in that Lord. May I find peace in knowing that you are a good, good father. You will carry me, you will sustain me. Amen.
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. – Proverbs 16:9
Forgiveness
Lord, may I always have a kind and soft heart toward others. May I get rid of all bitterness and anger. May I forgive myself and others. May I be kind and compassionate. Lord, give me your eyes and give me your heart for others. May I show others who you are by exemplifying your forgiveness and grace. Amen.
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. – Ephesians 4:31-32
Peace and Joy
God, I confess that at times I am restless. I have anxiety and I worry. At times, it is so overwhelming. May I seek your peace and joy. May I focus on things above and not current circumstances. I pray for joy. I pray for peace. I pray for more of you Jesus. Just you. Amen.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:7
Mindset
Lord, when I cannot control my thoughts, may I think on what is true, right, noble, pure, lovely.. may I think on your Word, on your promises, on you. At times, my thoughts are hard to control and will deceive me. May I look to you and what I know is truth. Amen.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. – Philippians 4:8
