It’s time for Clarke Residence Update #8. In all honesty, I was not planning to have an “update #8”. Throughout the month of December, we thought we would be moving into our new home at the end of the month or first weekend in January. Although that obviously hasn’t happened yet, we are still extremely excited and cannot wait to wrap everything up. We have been VERY busy since our last update, so I have a few final steps to share of our process. Our electrical, plumbing and a/c trim out was completed, our new appliances were delivered, knobs and pulls were installed and our fireplace was finished.
During my last update, I shared how our electrical trim out was beginning. They installed all of our switches and outlet covers, as well as, installed under cabinet lighting and all other house lights/fans. We have had our lighting picked out for quite some time because I feel in love with Kichler lighting over the summer and we bought all of the pieces we needed. We did, however, have to go pick out our under cabinet lighting because we actually forgot about it until the last minute.
I ordered all of our plumbing fixtures at the beginning of December, so they began to arrive mid-December and were installed late December. We went back and forth picking out our plumbing fixtures, so it was exciting to finally see how they look in each room. I think they really capture the look I was going for in each space, so I am very happy with them. We also have toilets now! Our a/c was also trimmed out by my father-in-law and his crew this month. If its possible, I’m about as excited as you can be about our a/c unit. Our house has different zones and I can control everything all from an app on my phone (or aka Kevin can control everything from his phone).
Also, this month, our new appliances were delivered. We bought a dishwasher, stove and built in microwave during black Friday sales and held the delivery until late December. We also bought all of our drawer and cabinet pulls and had them installed. It was really cool to see all of the final touches go in with the door knobs and even toilet paper holders! Everything just looks so amazing together and our Interceramic Tile just sets it off!
The big project of the past few weeks has been the fireplace. We decided on a look for our fireplace and picked out the stone. We then had to find a hearthstone to match and this part was tricky. We wanted a very clean, white look but could not find a hearthstone to match that was as white. After hours on Pinterest and looking at stone, we finally decided to do a contrasting light grey stone. We made a trip into downtown Houston, saw the stone in person, picked it out and by the time we drove back to our house – it was already installed! We were so excited about our decision and it was very nice to see it go in so quickly.
Our biggest set back has been dealing with our electric and gas company to get both of these services turned on at our house. Currently, we are waiting to get the gas line run to our house and a meter set. We spent countless hours on the phone with these companies over the winter break and it was anything but easy.
We have also been having tons of rain which has pushed back our irrigation and landscaping. Aside from these things, we are just waiting on our garage door and shower glass then it will be all finished!
