Summer is here and our little family is loving getting to spend more time together. We have a list of fun summer activities, and one of our favorites is having family movie nights. We have family movie nights at least once a week and our kids love it so much. We make movie nights special in different ways, like dressing up, making forts, creating our own pizza dinner and by making a movie night charcuterie board. Never made a charcuterie board before? No worries, I will break down How To Make A Movie Night Charcuterie Board the whole family will love, with favorites like Butterfinger®, Crunch®, and Baby Ruth® all from HEB!
What is a “Charcuterie Board”?
Traditionally speaking, a charcuterie board generally consists of a variety of meats and cheeses and often fruit or nuts; essentially it is a fancy word for a meat and cheese board! However, charcuterie boards have been becoming increasingly popular over the last few years, and people have been branching out to include candy “charcuterie” boards and other “themed” boards. Essentially, when you hear the words “charcuterie board”, think snack board or snack platter. The idea is a fun way to share food in a visually appeasing way full of color and variety. It’s low maintenance, and everyone can choose and help themselves to exactly what they want at the time. Plus, you can get everything you need for one easily at HEB, because they always have such a great variety of products.

How To Make A Movie Night Charcuterie Board
Decide on a Platter:For our movie night charcuterie board, I used a tray we already had at home that is about 20in x 13in. However, you can use any large platter or board or even a selection of different plates. I just advise picking your board based off how many people you will be feeding. Boards fill up quickly, but you can easily have way too much food if your board is too big.
Choose Your Snacks:Choose a selection of different colors/shapes/textures of fruit and snacks, this really adds to the overall look. I like to think about my theme – for example, movie night, and get snacks based on the theme. For example, when I think of movie night, I think popcorn, chocolate, and sweets. So I started with a base of popcorn, Butterfinger, Crunch, and Baby Ruth Fun Size bars. Then I bought fruit, nuts and cheese to add to the variety of items. I try to include some sweet and salty treats in this selection, plus fruit to balance it out. I find that having a good “base” helps, then I can easily pick different varieties of foods to complete the board.
Select Your Focal Point:Once you choose all of your snacks and buy them at HEB, you are ready to craft your board. I like to start with the focal point which is typically my “themed” item – in this case it is the popcorn box and surrounding candy.
Select Side Dishes:Once you have your main items in place, you can put your other items in bowls or dishes and then add smaller items around them. I like to include a lot of different options and each person’s favorites. Butterfinger is a big time favorite of mine, because of its unique peanut-buttery flavor and crunchy texture! Crunch is Brooke and Kevin’s favorite, because they like the simple, classic flavor with chocolate and crisped rice. And, Kevin Jr. really likes Baby Ruth, because of the new and improved recipe with dry roasted peanuts, caramel and smooth nougat. They are all just so good though!
Vary Your Placement:While placing the side dishes, I like to put each item in 2 -4 different spots on the board (depending on the size of the board), so that everyone can reach some of everything. There aren’t a ton of rules when it comes to placement, just begin at your focal point, place your side dishes around, then work around those to fill in the gaps.
Have Fun:Yes, have fun with it! Most of the time, we love creating the board as a family and having fun with it. It’s all of our favorite snacks, so we love putting them together to enjoy!
