Oh, how our family loves the days of Summer! Give me all the nights filled with laughter by the fire making s’mores. We have been soaking up every minute of family time and just taking time to relax. Since my husband is off for Summer and my job is flexible, we really have an amazing Summer filled with only family time, but I know that’s not a reality for so many people. As Summer comes to a close, fun family nights don’t have to!
For most, family time is crammed into busy nights or weekends and can honestly be exhausting to plan. Family nights should not be exhausting! I know the struggle is real and so many mom friends of mine talk about just wanting to make valuable memories with their family – not just spend time together. They really want to capture and create lasting memories.
We have found, the simplest way to do this is through fun family nights! These don’t have to be extravagant to be memorable. Here are my 4 Steps to a Fun S’mores Family Night that will be memorable and ignite connections.
Clear Your Schedule
The first step to a fun s’mores night is picking a time. Clear your schedule and make time for each other. This could be a free night after school, or on the weekend. You don’t need 5 hours, or a huge chunk of time. It’s all about quality. Even an hour will work great!
Gather Your Supplies
Once you know your details, it’s time to make a list and gather your supplies. I love making lists so I don’t forget things and I just feel like it makes me really intentional with our time. For our family fun night, I grabbed Hershey’s Milk Chocolate, Jet-Puffed Marshmallows, and Honey Maid Graham Crackers from Walmart. I also got something salty, something fruity, and something sweet to add to our s’mores board.
Add some “simple” flare
I highly recommend a S’mores family night, because there is just something about s’mores that brings family together. I personally think it’s the activity, mixed with atmosphere of the fire, the spirit of storytelling around a fire, and of course, the delicious taste of s’mores.
Flare is all about doing something extra to make it more memorable. For me, this means adding simple, yet memorable details. This can be a themed decor, or something as simple as knowing what your family loves. I feel like my family notices when I think about what they would enjoy. For example, on our s’mores night, I created a s’mores board. It was something simple I could do to present the items in a fun way. I knew my kids would love this so much and just really enjoy seeing everything laid out in a fun way.
Have Fun
These simple family nights will be the memories that your kids hold so dear. Its about taking the time to do something as a family, share stories around the fire, and craft fun creations with your Hershey’s Milk Chocolate, Jet-Puffed Marshmallows, and Honey Maid Graham Crackers from Walmart! Be present, put down your phone (except to capture memories) and just be in the moment. You won’t regret it!
