It’s no secret that my health issues these past few years have taken a toll on our everyday life. Before my strokes, I was decently active and enjoyed working out at home and occasionally at the gym. However, for the past two years, I have barely lifted anything over ten pounds and had minimal activity to allow my neck to heal. I have been fully cleared by doctors to work out and live life, but it has been a slow progression for me filled with setbacks.
I have tried over the past year to get into a workout routine and find new workouts to work around my neck stiffness or chronic pain now. But, each time I have either been too zealous or not zealous enough. I haven’t gotten into a good pace, or I have been discouraged in finding workouts that work for me.
This led me on a search to really find a solution that would work for me and thankfully, I was introduced to the Future Fit App. For the past three weeks, I have been working out with my trainer through the Future Fit App and it has brought so much balance to my life again. I have been really determined to get active again and the Future App has helped motivate me and keep me accountable all while providing workouts tailored to me, my pace, my strength and my busy schedule.
What is Future?
The Future Fit App is essentially a fitness training app that helps motivate you to reach your fitness goals. Once you sign up for the app, you are given your own personal trainer who creates a completely personalized fitness plan tailored to your needs and your schedule. The trainers hold you accountable, check in with you daily, give you tips on your workouts, and help motivate you to keep reaching toward your goals.
I really feel like the personal relationship you build with your trainer is key to your success. They really take the time to get to know you and help you reach your goals. You can text them through app and my trainer has even sent me fun, encouraging emojis.
Also, not only is the trainer aspect highly important, but the quality of the workouts is fantastic. The Future Fit App uses such a great technology that really makes their app stand out. The Future app pairs with Apple phones and watches, so all members are given an Apple Watch so that your biometrics can be delivered to your coach and tracked for performance. This high level of technology, combined with the amazing array of customizable workouts really helps make everything seamless and personalized to your needs.
How does the Future App Work?
STEP 1: Choosing your trainer/coach
Once you sign up for a membership, you will answer a few questions and they will give you a short list of trainers that they would recommend for you. You can then read a little bit about them and select a trainer. I chose Stacie as my coach, because she was from a similar area and enjoyed some of the same things I do like great TexMex.
As soon as I selected Stacie and completed my profile, I received a personal video message and typed out message from Stacie welcoming me to the Future App and telling me what to expect on our “get to know you” FaceTime Call. I loved getting a video message from her first, because it just already made everything feel very personal.
STEP 2: Create a Fitness Plan Together
You will be prompted to set up a FaceTime call with your trainer, where you will really start crafting a fitness plan together. Stacie asked a series of questions to learn more about me, my health and my fitness goals. She also made sure to confirm what equipment I had access to (which isn’t much). We set up a schedule for my workouts and since my schedule is very different daily – we just decided on a number of workouts for the week, then I move them to certain days as I have time in my schedule.
She also asked me a lot about what types of workouts I enjoy and my comfort level for trying different workouts. I feel like this really helped us be successful quickly because she knew I enjoyed HIIT style workouts and lots of stretching.
Overall, our FaceTime call was incredibly laid back and we both just got to know each other a little more. My son even “interrupted” our call a time or two and it was all very natural. The FaceTime call really allows you to get comfortable with your trainer and helps them create a plan that will be geared toward your needs.
STEP 3: Workout!
After our call, Stacie created a workout schedule within the app. From here, it is very simple to follow – you can workout when you want, as much as you want. All you need to do is follow the plan each week and your trainer will be there with daily check ins to keep you accountable and encourage you along the way.
Because of my health situation, Stacie knows that balance is important to me, so she made sure to structure my workouts with a certain amount of “HIIT style” movements and stretching, mixed with days that are primarily stretching to keep my pace from being too high.
You can also expect your trainer to send you personalized audio messages before each workout that include workout-specific instructions and tips for success. They will also remind you of important tips during the workout and keep you motivated throughout the workout.
One of my favorite aspects of the actual workout is that you can view them on your phone, watch, or smart streaming device. They have great instructions, clear videos of each move and polished timers that even show you the next move coming up. The app is very user friendly and easy to use.
STEP 4: Track your progress
Like I mentioned, if you don’t already own an Apple Watch, the Future Fit App will send you one to use for your workouts because they collect biometric data (like your heart rate and steps) to use to better your experience. I love seeing the re-cap of my week at one glance and how much I accomplished.
You can also leave feedback after each workout for your trainer and let them know of anything you liked, disliked or want to change.
Common Questions:
Do you NEED an Apple Watch to use Future? Yes, as I mentioned above – the Future App works off of Apple and uses your watch metrics. If you don’t already own an Apple Watch, they will send you one to be used for workout tracking. If you opt to have them send you one, you will be required to pay a fully refundable deposit of $199 at checkout. They explain everything very clearly on their site and even have information on if you end up wanting to keep the watch.
Does Future App work with Android? No, the Future App only works with Apple.
