You’re in the drive thru at Starbucks, you forgot your lunch, you’re dreading your day at work, you’re already running late and you pull up to the window to be greeted by the barista saying that your order has already been paid for by the person in front of you.
You are a new mom. Your day has been filled with dirty diapers, piles of laundry, a house that needs to be cleaned and dinner that needs to be made with no time to accomplish everything. Your phone goes off with an encouraging text from a friend.
You’ve just received a horrible phone call from your mom telling you that your grandfather’s cancer has spread and that more treatment will have to be done. You are in the middle of Target, fighting back sobs in the shoe aisle, and a stranger smiles at you – hugs you – and says they hope your day gets better.
Sometimes these things happen at just the right time. We call them coincidence or good luck or chance. However, I don’t consider this “chance”. I believe that God often uses strangers, neighbors, friends, and family to convey messages of His truth to us.
To help refresh us and restore our soul.
The message that He loves us deeply and that we are not alone.
Has this happened to you? Have you felt alone, in anguish, distant? And has someone extended love to you at the most pivotal time that you could only consider it a “God moment”?
My prayer today is that we would be that for others around us. That the love God has shown us overflows into our lives so deeply that we share it with others. It can be a blessing to give to others that our obviously in need; when you help a single mom who is struggling or when you offer food to someone holding a “hungry” sign at a stop light. However, my prayer is that our compassion is extended not to just those in obvious need, but to others all around us. I pray that God gives us His eyes to see and His heart for others, so that we can genuinely bless those he has placed around us.
Lord,
Thank you for loving me. Thank you for the times you have used others to show me you are present and that you care immensely for me. Help me slow down today and see the world through Your eyes. Give me Your heart for others around me as this does not always come easy for me. Take away my propensity for selfishness and take away anything that would hinder me from serving you today. I love you Lord and my desire is to love others as you love me. Amen.
A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. – Proverbs 11:25

Absolutely. I love those moments that make you stop (even in the midst of difficulty and major stress) and remember, “Wow, God loves us so much. I owe Him everything.” and you can’t help but smile and want to be a better person, more worthy of that amazing perfect love.
Great prayer too — Thanks for sharing! 🙂

I love when that happens and I need to do it more. And I also need to pray for others more… because as tough as my life may seem at times, other people certainly have it harder. xo
