Because lets face it, your man doesn’t want a pink room.
- Inventory: Before you start re-deorating, its good to know what you have. Get a good idea of what both of you have and what you need to get rid of. Now, before you start chunking his stuff out the door, make sure to ask nicely. For example, my husband wanted to keep this awful chair he has had for a long time.
- Window Shop: Now that you have a good idea of what you need, its time to start window shopping. Go to some shops around town to see what items stores have in stock and get ideas about what you could possibly buy. Also, Commence with the Pinterest boards for each room to get ideas and inspiration, as well as, magazines. {By going to stores first and seeing whats available, it will help you keep your Pinterest boards realistic}
- Get his opinion: Once you have some boards created, show them to your man and get a feel for his style. Caution: Don’t overwhelm him with a million “pins”. Start by showing him a few and asking what he likes and dislikes about each of them. For example, you might think he would like chevron but in reality, he hates it. This will help you be prepared to shop in the near future. You might not like all of his opinions, but keep in mind that you are building a home for BOTH of you.
- Shop together: Now, its time to shop. Since you have already been, it will help the process go a little faster {this is great, especially if your man is not a shopper}. By going together, this ensures that you both have a say in what gets bought and eliminates fights down the road.
- Make it your home: I know that Pinterest boards can look amazing and perfect, but nothing will be more perfect than your home. So, make it feel that way by incorporating all your photos and the items from the “inventory” that made the list. Now – enjoy life together!

Hey there. Just recently found your blog and I love it. This is really helpful because my husband and I just bought a home and will have many rooms to decorate. He says he will give me free reign but I want him to be happy as well, so these tips were great. Thanks for sharing!

Great advice! I am currently going decorating crazy (or at least wanting to). Apparently that’s part of having a baby. My mind is constantly running with ideas, good things to keep in mind as I hope to do some decorating!

I’m lucky. I let the Hubs have his room, the office, and I get the rest! I’m not super girly, so he’s not too worried. Happy Wife – Happy Life
