I’m sharing #JOHNSONS in my life as part of a JOHNSON’S® sponsored series for Socialstars™
Lets be honest, as a parent, bedtime can be the easiest part of the day or the hardest part of the day. Before Brooke was born, I read a lot of different articles on bedtime routines and ways to help a baby sleep. It was one of the topics I didn’t quite feel prepared for in terms of parenting. However, I admit our bedtime journey so far has been relatively easy. I believe this is because we started with a routine from the time we brought Brooke home from the hospital and we stuck with it. I also think Brooke likes her sleep a lot.
She was sleeping through the night and in her own room by 6 weeks. Don’t get me wrong, she has had tough nights and all nighters, but mainly due to sickness and/or teething. So, overall, it has been a fairly easy journey for us, so I wanted to share our routine with you.
As the #1 baby skin care brand, JOHNSON’S® has advanced the science of baby sleep and continues to uncover cognitive, physical and emotional benefits of sleep for happy, healthy baby development. While I completely recognize that no two babies sleep alike, their 3-Step Baby Sleep Routine is the only clinically proven to help baby fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. So, we incorporated their routine suggestion into our own routine.
Step 1: Warm Bath
The first thing we do to wind down for bedtime, is give Brooke a bath. This helps her get the last of her energy out and calm down for bed. We use JOHNSON’S baby BEDTIME® bath and JOHNSON’S baby BEDTIME® bubble bath and wash. The scent is incredibly calming and just smells so good. Brooke loves bath time so much and enjoys splashing around in the bubbles. Unfortunately, due to Brooke’s sensitive skin, we have been advised by our doctor to only give Brooke a bath every other day for right now, so bath time is only apart of the routine every other day for now. I really believe it plays a huge part in our bed time routine and can’t wait until we can move back to baths everyday.
Step 2: Baby Massage
After bath time, we dry Brooke off, change her diaper, and apply JOHNSON’S® baby BEDTIME® lotion while giving her a little baby massage. After she has her lotion on, we put on her pajamas for the night. Our favorite pajamas right now are these ones with whales on them, they are just so adorable! Baby jammies are the best!
Step 3: Quiet Time
Once she is all ready for bed, we give her a small bottle of milk and snuggle up with her for a few minutes until she finishes her bottle. After her bottle is gone, we give her kisses, lay her in her crib, give her a blanket (this is her favorite part, she is a blanket girl) and leave the room. Once we leave the room, she tends to fall asleep within a few minutes.
To help parents discover how a bedtime routine can engage the senses and help baby sleep, JOHNSON’S® Baby Sleep App is launching the Tonight We Sleep™ Challenge and releasing global lullabies featuring crowd-sourced sounds of bedtime from around the world. I hope this has helped you in forming your bedtime routine. Since every baby is different, I know your routine probably looks different from ours. I would love to hear from you, what does your baby bedtime routine look like?
