On Memorial Day Weekend, I think we spent all weekend outside! Brooke LOVES being outside and exploring. I have written a few posts on outdoor play, but I wanted to share our favorite Summer Outdoor Toddler Activities right now. First things first, we headed to buybuy BABY to stock up on Summer toys. On a side note, I have to say I LOVE shopping at buybuy BABY. The store is always so neat and clean, plus their staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. They always talk to my littles and help me find the best goods. I love the shopping experience they provide, I can’t say enough good things about them. An associate even helped me find this great floaty for Brother. Okay, now onto the activities:
Water Table Play
Brooke got a water table for her birthday and just loves it! It is such a great activity I can manage with both kids. I fill her table up on our back porch, then just keep the door open so I can be inside with Brother while Brooke plays at the table outside. Its so perfect (except when she runs in the house wet haha)!
Fence Painting
I’ll admit, I saw a friend do this with her kids and I loved it. Basically you fill up a kiddie pool or bucket with water and give them a wash cloth or paint brush to paint your fence with water. This is such a great activity that keeps them entrained for hours! They get to play in the water and be creative.
Sidewalk Chalk
While this isn’t my husbands favorite activity, Brooke likes drawing on the sidewalk. It is also a fun time to work on colors and shapes.
Toddler Scavenger Hunt
Another great activity for colors and shapes is a toddler scavenger hunt. I just write colors or objects on a piece of paper, then we go for a walk around our neighborhood and look for all the things on our list. When we find them, we put a sticker next to the item.
Bubble Machine
We got our bubble machine out for the first time memorial day weekend and Brooke thought it was super cool. She had to have it on while we were outside. She would push the button, then go play or follow the bubbles. If I turned it off, she would run back over and turn it back on.
Sprinklers
We played in the sprinklers for the first time at my parents house a few weekends ago and Brooke wasn’t sure about it at first. However, after Daddy and I went with her, she LOVED it. She wasn’t a big fan of doing it by herself, but she would. She loved holding hands and running through together.
Pool Time
Pool time might be mommy’s favorite. I love hanging out poolside. This requires both parents but is so so fun. Brooke loves the water and when Daddy throws her in the air.
Backyard Races
This is a fun activity to get some energy out. You just make a starting line, then race each other. Brooke loves saying “ready, set, go”. Its so simple, but entertains so much.
Picnic
You can also mix it up with a picnic in the driveway or backyard. This is a fun lunch time activity or even an evening family activity. We like to eat ice cream dessert outside at our house.
Powered Toy Car
Ahh!! This might be our favorite. Brooke got a pink car from her Aunt Jenn for her birthday and is obsessed with it. Every time we go in the garage she wants to ride in her “car”. Its such a fun activity for her and us. We drive it with the remote control and she cruises around the neighborhood.
Gardening
Daddy loves his yard and likes to be outside so that means Brooke does to. She will stand in the window and watch him mow the yard every week. She also likes to go out with her gardening gloves and bucket and help pick any weeds in the yard. Chores are great activities for toddlers..haha.
Stroller Ride
I love this activity. I like taking the kids to the outside mall we have in town and walking around with them. They both love being in the stroller so its nice and relaxing.
What Summer Outdoor Toddler Activities do you like to do with your family? I would love to add some more to our lineup!
