I still remember the helpless feeling I had when Brooke was sick for the first time. I felt awful for her and wanted to do anything I could to ease her sickness and help her feel better. Then, I remember more helpless when she continued to get sick throughout cold season her first year of life. I felt like we lived in the doctors office for those four months. Thankfully, that was a season, and her second round of cold season was dramatically different. We are coming up on our little guys first year of cold season and I want to ensure we are prepared with the essentials for surviving baby’s cold. It’s so important to be prepared so you aren’t going on midnight runs for tylenol, advil or other things your baby needs. I am happy to say that our cabinets are fully stocked and ready for cold season thanks to buybuy BABY with:
Medicine
Parents, STOCK UP!! I’ve been there… well, my husband has been there – driving to the store at 1am because didn’t have the proper medicine at home. Your exhausted, your baby is crying and you have to make a drive in the middle of the night. Its NOT fun. Stock up now on essentials like Tylenol, Advil, Vicks Baby Rub, Enfalyte and cough medicine! I like to keep different brands in case one is working better at the time and to switch off. But you can normally find all of these stocked in our house.
Humidifier
This was a great debate in our house, to buy the humidifier or to not by the humidifier. I know it has helped some families I know tremendously and some say it doesn’t seem to really work. Either way, we have one in our house in case we want to try it out with some Vicks Baby Rub in certain cases. When Brooke had RSV, we used this to help soothe her. Again, I’ve heard good and bad but we were willing to try anything to give her some relief.
Cleaners
This may be something you easily overlook. If your family is anything like ours, you are running around like crazy and your to do list is overflowing. It is so easy to forget to clean toys properly and your house. Make it a priority to sanitize all of your child’s toys weekly and keep the surfaces in your house clean. Start teaching your child the importance of washing their hands throughout the day other “clean” techniques to combat germs!
Blankets/Warm Clothes
Yes, this may be obvious, but be sure to stock up on weather appropriate clothes! In a mom in the ever changing Texas weather, this also means a little extra work on my part to check the weather every day. Some days a jacket is needed in the mornings, while shorts are needed in the afternoon. The weather can be drastically different, so its important to know your climate and stay up on the weather. I like to invest in pieces for my kids that are great for layering and very functional.
Blankets
The ever so important thermometer! I can’t tell you how many times we have used ours in the past two and half years of having kids. Buy it and buy a good one! I have always used and trusted Braun thermometers. I find that the forehead thermometer works the best for our family. I have seen reviews that say it can be hard to get an accurate read, but I find that I can always “clear” it by taking my temperature then taking my child’s again to see an accurate number. Plus, it has always been very spot on for us when comparing with our doctors thermometer.
These are my TOP essentials for surviving baby’s cold. They were super easy to order online at buybuy BABY or you can even drop in the store really quick to make sure you are prepared. What others do you stock up on in your house? I would love to know! Comment below.
