If you have been around Simply Clarke for awhile, you have probably heard the story of my first baby food experience. I remember standing on the baby food aisle feeling totally overwhelmed. I had no idea where to start or what I was doing. I proceeded to take pictures of the aisle, then go home to ask my trusty friend “google” and “pinterest” for advice. Thankfully, for you, today I have teamed up with Stonyfield Organic YoBaby Yogurt to talk about great First Foods For Babies. Deciding on your baby’s first food is a fun moment, lets take away the stress!
Veggies
We started with single veggies first to watch for any allergies and then began mixing two veggies quickly after. Our kids both had green veggies first, then orange veggies. They both liked the green veggies least, so I was very thankful we started with them because a lot of babies won’t eat green veggies if they get them last. However, every baby is different so just start slow and introduce them to your baby one at a time.
Dairy
Yes, your baby needs dairy too! A lot of moms don’t realize that while cow’s milk is best when consumed after babies turn one year old, yogurt is different because of live and active cultures helping to digest the lactose. With both of our babies, we have used Stonyfield Organic YoBaby Yogurt as a first food, because not only were they the first organic baby yogurt on the market (in 1999), but YoBaby is the #1 pediatrician recommended yogurt for babies and kids 6 months to 2 years among refrigerated yogurts. They are the only organic baby yogurt in plant based packaging and there are no sweeteners in the Stonyfield Organic YoBaby Banana Mango flavor! Something about Bananas and Mangos, my kids LOVE THEM!
As you can see, the texture of YoBaby is thick and creamy which also makes it great for babies learning how to use utensils. Less mess for moms! Stonyfield Organic YoBaby Yogurt has BB-12 probiotics for happy tummies. BB-12® has been shown to have a digestive health benefit when consumed regularly as part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle by promoting beneficial gut bacteria and regular, soft stools. Because YoBaby is certified organic, that means it’s always made without artificial flavors or preservatives, toxic persistent pesticides, artificial hormones, antibiotics, and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). What more could moms want?! Did I mention it tastes great?
Fruits
Fruits are also great for first foods. After our babies got veggies down, we added in fruit options. Like I mentioned above, our babies loved all things banana and mango. They also enjoyed blueberries. There are so many different combos to try!
Grains
You can also mix your fruits and veggies in grains. Baby Kevin wasn’t a big fan of green beans at all, so we mixed them in oatmeal or baby cereal to tone down the taste. You can also give them small bites of crackers that dissolve in their mouth. Variety is best to make sure you are hitting all of the food groups they need!
Overall, exploring different baby foods and food options is incredibly fun. Meal time is the BEST part of the day in our house! The kids even love eating in different places around our house now. They enjoy eating at the table, on a tray, having an indoor picnic or even eating at their play table together. Stonyfield Organic YoBaby Yogurt has brought some great morning fun to our house!
