I remember several different Christmas traditions from when I was a kid – from shopping with my mom, to baking cookies with Granny, to wrapping gifts with Dad. There are so many fun memories created in your childhood. Once Kevin and I got married, we merged some of our traditions and created some of our own. He always loved watching Christmas movies as a family and drinking wassail. Now, since having our own kids, we have loved that we can start making our own little family traditions. Together, we love watching Christmas movies, baking cookies, reading books and having festive PJs (well the kids and I love festive pjs – 3/4 isn’t bad, right?!)
Since Brooke was little, we have always read books with her before bedtime and it has just stuck. Our kids love to read before bed and we do A LOT of reading. They each pick their favorites for the day and we all sit on the floor together. Each night, we also read from their Baby Bibles they have. If you have been around here awhile, you have probably heard me mention them because we LOVE them! They are so interactive and the kids just have so much fun with it each night.
We decided to make sure we read a book together every night during December, and I have been searching for a great Christmas book to incorporate into our lineup during the holiday season. I even found this awesome list of Best Christmas Books for Children on Upparent which was a fabulous starting point. You might remember, but I wrote about Upparent a few months ago. It is an exciting new site that aims to help parents by gathering many of the conversations parents are having with one another to share family-friendly recommendations about things to do, places to go, products to try – all into one place. You can use it to search for things like events in your area or even volunteer opportunities for your family.
Well, I am excited to say that this year, I found “The Christmas Book” to start a new family tradition during the month of December. My mom and I were shopping at a local store a few weeks ago for a Christmas event and I stumbled upon Snuggle Time Christmas Stories.
I am super excited about it, because it splits the Christmas story up into small parts that a toddler can understand. It is easy to follow along with and is set up very similarly to our Baby Bibles that they love. There are tons of places to make it interactive. For example, the first page is a Happy Birthday to Jesus page so you can clap and sing to involve the little ones!
Whether your Christmas reading tradition is reading a special book on Christmas Eve or reading a different holiday book every night, you can find the perfect Christmas story for your family on this fabulous Upparent list. Be sure to browse around while you are there. I even found a great gift idea for Brooke! It has so many amazing lists for parents that are easy to search.
