We all know the back-to-school morning struggle. I am a big time morning person, but it can be quite a task to wrangle my kids and get them into a back-to-school morning routine. I love the feeling of being productive in the morning, but my kids bring in a whole different level of inefficiency to the mix. I mean this morning I put Baby Kevin’s shoes on three times before we even left the house all while Brooke kept dressing up in different princess outfits. The chaos of little ones is a hard cycle to combat in the back-to-school season. So, how do you go from chaos to productive in your morning routine? These 5 secrets for an amazing back-to-school morning routine will help you feel productive, despite the chaos. Plus, you can even add in some fun with the NEW Kellogg’s Baby Shark cereal. And it all starts the night before!
Prep The Night Before
My ultimate secret for an amazing back-to-school morning routine is to prep the night before. I like to set out what each kid is wearing the next day so that there are no arguments. I let them choose between two options and we stick to it. I also fill up their cups with milk and put them in the fridge so all I have to do is grab them and set them on the table. Another big thing I prep is what they will be having for breakfast. On our breakfast favorites list right now is the NEW Kellogg’s Baby Shark cereal (available exclusively at Sam’s Club right now – then at Walmart too in late September). The kids think it’s so fun. I also make sure their lunches are packed as much as possible the night before and I go through their backpacks to make sure we haven’t missed anything.
Clear Your Slate
I love to start each day with a clear slate. I wake up and the first thing I do is roll over and check my messages. My inbox easily piles up throughout the night and day, so I like to start by reading all of the messages, filing them appropriately, and answering a few if I can. I also go through each of my social media outlets, check those messages and clear ones that I can clear. By starting the day with an empty inbox, it sets me up for a clean slate and allows me to be the best mom I can be without having a lot on my plate.
Make Your Day Fun
Life should be fun. Mornings don’t have to be stressful. We allow some time in our schedule to just be ourselves and have fun. My kids LOVE baby shark and are obsessed with the NEW Kellogg’s Baby Shark cereal like I mentioned earlier. The minute they saw it at Sam’s Club they had to have it! And then, once we opened at home, they were hooked! It is so delicious and just hits the spot. It has classic “berry fin-tastic” flavored rings that are floating with marshmallows and deliver a delicious splash of flavor that doesn’t miss the boat.
Beginning August 17th, you can pick up a two-pack of Kellogg’s Baby Shark cereal for only $5.98 EXCLUSIVELY at ALL Sam’s Club locations (that’s enough for Mommy, Daddy, Baby, Grandma and Grandpa Shark) before it’s released to select Walmart stores in a single pack in late September. Trust me, you want this cereal in your pantry! The kids even have fun busting out their baby shark gear for a quick sing-along before heading out the door! We eat, we sing the song and we just get to act silly together for a little bit.
Plan Your Day
After my coffee and oftentimes, during my coffee, I plan out my day in my planner. I am a paper planner person big time. I plan out each day, have a checklist and set goals for the day. I try to be realistic for my goals and think about how much time each task will take. By planning out my day on paper, it helps me stay organized and not miss any deadlines I may have. This part of my day is also just a piece of happiness for my Type A loving self.
Find What Works For You
Finally, find what works for you! You might need a few minutes to yourself with technology, or maybe a cup of coffee and good music. Or, you might like to start your day off reading or journaling. Find what inspires you and make time for it! While waking up before my kids isn’t always fun, it sets me up for success. The extra hour by myself to do these things makes my day so much better! I am in a good mood when they wake up and ready to take on the day!
