5 Steps to Transition to a Little Boys Room + Sweetnight Mattress Review
I can’t believe that I am already typing a post like this, it seriously feels like yesterday that we were transitioning Little Kevin to his toddler room. Now, at 3 1/2 years old, we have officially broken down his toddler bed and set up his “big boy” Sweetnight Mattress. I know every child is different, so I will just be sharing our journey through the transition so far, including how we decided it was time to make the transition, why we choose the mattress we did and the steps we took to transition his room.
Let’s start with a little background. KevKev has always been a good sleeper and potty trained really easy. However, up until a few months ago, he would still wake up once a night to go potty. We decided that he could get a “big boy” bed as soon as the nighttime potty stopped and he started acting a little more like a big boy in terms of his attitude. For the past two months, he was been doing amazing and really showing us how ready he was to make the transition to a little boys room.
Shopping for a mattress
After we realized he was ready, we started shopping for a mattress. I read a ton of reviews online and honestly, didn’t feel like going in a store. I have been really interested in the “box mattress” concept of them shipping it right to your door and Sweetnight really stuck out to me. They have a best price guarantee, free shipping, 100 day money back guarantee, and great warranties. Plus, I really liked the idea of their hybrid mattresses and was drawn to the Twilight mattress because of the gel-infused memory foam. I feel like the kids room is either hot or cold depending on the season and I like that the mattress adjusts to that as well.
As you can see by the pictures in this post, we really enjoyed the process of receiving the mattress. I was AMAZED at how a queen size mattress fit all rolled up in a little box. I mean, I was honestly skeptical when I opened it and how this was going to work. However, after we unwrapped it, it popped up and was perfect! I highly highly recommend Sweetnight mattress. Ours is very comfortable and it was so convenient to order online. Plus, if you use promo code MARQUIS you can get 15% off your purchase!
Deciding on a Headboard
Next, we decided on a headboard. I really wanted a white wood headboard to match his dresser that he already had in his room, so I looked all over the internet. This was one of the hardest parts, because I wanted something inexpensive for his first one, but one that was a good quality. I finally found this white wood headboard at Home Depot and knew it was the one.
Deciding on a room layout
While we waited for the mattress and headboard to arrive, we started brainstorming different room layouts based up on his furniture and toys in his room. We decided on a set up and then decided that a few toys would have to wait for us to see where they would go.
Picking a theme
We also talked with KevKev about what theme he wanted for his room. This was pretty easy, because he has been wanting a baseball room, specifically an Astros room ever since we first started talking about it. So, I pulled a few ideas down from the internet and made little idea boards to show him and then we let him pick his favorite. He really liked this one the best because blue is his favorite color and he liked that he could carry his Astros pillow around.
Putting it all together!
Finally, the day came where everything arrived and it was time to put it all together. It was a late night, but KevKev was so excited to see his new room all put together and he just loves snuggling in his new bed. He has been sleeping great and is lightly OCD about where his pillows and animals go on his bed. Needless to say, he is in love and so excited about his new room!
