You know sleepless nights. You know spit up as your newest accessory. You have nailed the swaddle. You hear crying babies when there are none. Your arms are getting buffer by the minute. You know exhaustion. You know diapers. You know diapers well. You can probably change a diaper in your sleep. You know google. You have your pediatricians number memorized. You know joy beyond belief. You know worry.
Is my baby getting enough to eat? How do I get that rash to go away? Is that suppose to be THAT color? Is my baby spitting up too much? Why is my baby crying? Is my baby teething? Is my baby ready for food? How many ounces should my baby be eating? The questions and worries come a million miles a minute. And the comparison finds its’ way in as well.
You see other babies the same age sitting up, or eating food, or sleeping through the night and you wonder if your baby is behind. You worry that you aren’t doing enough. You worry you aren’t making enough milk. You worry you aren’t having your baby do enough tummy time. Then, you spend hours on google confirming your worries.
Does this sound familiar? Hi, I’m a new mom too. I know this feeling well. Its hard not to worry, and its hard not to compare. My biggest lesson I have learned on my mommy journey so far is that every baby is different, every parent is different, and every day is different. Some babies sleep through the night at eight weeks, and some don’t till one year. Some parents are fans of co-sleeping and some want their babies in their crib ASAP. Some days are filled with cuddles, baby laughs and playing while others are filled with screaming, tears and exhaustion. See, different.
So, I just wanted to take today to tell you that you are not alone. You are doing a great job. You are a great mom. Soak in every moment. You are special and your baby is special. You are a great mom.
Love,
A New Mom
