This month came with struggles and triumphs as a parent for sure. We got to the point where Brooke would need her 7th antibiotic for a constant ear infection she had since November. We decided it was time to see an ENT and get his opinion on Brooke’s ears. At her appointment, he said her ears looked horrible and recommended that she have surgery the next week. As first time parents, we went back and forth about if we were doing the right thing, but after looking at all the options, we knew we had to do something to help her and antibiotics just weren’t working at all. Brooke did great through the surgery, it is such a quick process, we were without her for only about 5 minutes. The doctor told us her ears were extremely bad and that everything went good. We took her home 20 minutes later and by the time she woke up from her nap, she was perfectly normal.
Before getting the ear tubes, we were starting to get concerned with Brooke’s gross motor skill development. We knew that since she was six weeks early that her development is measured differently. However, she was falling more and more behind with rolling, crawling and pulling up. However, within a week after surgery, she started rolling over in her crib at night and all over the place. The day after surgery, she started sitting herself up from the crawling position. And in a little over a week, she started crawling. We knew there was a possibility that her ear infections were having an effect on her, but now I am convinced. It is incredible how mobile Brooke is now after getting ear tubes. We are very thankful that we made the right decision for our little girl. She has her follow up appointment next week and we have no concerns.
Throughout this month, both of our parents also came down and spent the weekend with us. Its always so fun to have family in town and they love spending time with Brooke. This past weekend Kevin’s sister came in town and the next few months we have filled with fun occasions and family visits. I can’t believe in one month we we will have a ONE YEAR OLD!! We are in full party planning mode and can’t wait to celebrate her awesome first year of life.
