As the end of the year gets closer and closer, I know time is quickly moving and soon, we will be a family four. This keeps hitting me in different ways, and recently, I got sentimental that it would mean Brooke would no longer get all of our attention. At nights, we eat dinner, have bath time, cuddle and of course, play… with Brooke. We only have a limited time now where we can just play with strictly her. I know there will be days when we can focus on her, but it just won’t be the same when she is no longer an only child. I write all of this to say that we are really focusing on making the most of these months with just her, and that means LOTS of playtime.
Recently, we saw LEGO® DUPLO® products while browsing the toy aisle and thought they were a great idea. Kevin and I both loved playing with LEGO bricks when we were kids and loved that they have special LEGO DUPLO bricks now. They are preschool building toys that are specially designed for the small hands and big imaginations of children aged 1½ – 5 years. DUPLO bricks are twice the size of standard LEGO bricks, making them a safe way to kick off a child’s building career.
Needless to say, they have been a hit in our house! I’m not sure who likes playing with them more, Brooke or Kevin. Since she is still on the younger side of using this product, we help her put the pieces together, but we love watching her imagination and let her guide us in what to put together. Sometimes, she just laughs when you connect them together. Its so cute watching her amazement.
By putting down our phones, and turning down the television during playtime, we have really been able to focus on just playing. Play is essential for early learning – it IS the way young children learn about their world. What is your number one tip for maximizing playtime?

I love her face as she’s laughing while connecting the blocks! So cute! My kids all liked playing with Legos/Duplos too. It it amazing all of the new toys they’re coming out with, especially for girls. This week, since my 10 year old son didn’t have school, I made sure and set aside time for him every day so we could play a board game together.
