A Little Tuesday Reminder: Be your husband’s number one fan.
I mentioned this in my post about 10 Tips for a Christ Centered Marriage, but I have been thinking about this a lot today. Growing up, I always felt like my parents were my biggest fans. They were at every single sporting event, school play, you name it… they were there.
Then, it’s time for marriage and God calls us to “leave our fathers and mothers” and “become one flesh” {Genesis 2:24}. Then, our significant other becomes our biggest fan. They pick us up when we have had a rough day, they help us reach our dreams and they push us to be better. I think it is the easiest job and the hardest job. It is easy because you love them, every ounce of them. I can’t explain how much joy I get from watching Kevin succeed or doing something that he loves. So far in our marriage, this has come easy.
I feel extremely blessed thus far in our marriage that we have not had many challenges. I know that some of you have had a tougher time being your husband’s number one fan due to hurts or disappointments. I personally think this is normal. Marriage is work. It is joy and happiness as well, but let’s face it, you have two sinful people living under one roof.
Think about David in the bible, David was a great king. When he was just a boy, he killed Goliath with just a few stones (& God’s help of course). He did so many amazing things in life, but also did terrible things like committing adultery and murder (yikes). But, despite all the bad things, God still describes David as a man after God’s own heart {1 Samuel 12:14 and Acts 13:22}. This is amazingly good news for us and gives us picture of God’s love and Him as our number one fan as well.
As wives, we should remember this example of God’s unending love in good times and in bad. My encouragement would be to focus on the positive things about your husband and the reasons why you love him. Also, prayer is huge; never underestimate the power of prayer.
I think it is extremely important to let your husband know how proud of him you are and tell him why you love him. Be his biggest cheerleader, comforter and friend.
Be his biggest fan.
