I have some news for you! We found a HOUSE. Yes, that quick. A couple weeks ago, I posted a House Hunting Worksheet Freebie and talked about how I made this worksheet to keep me organized when looking at houses. I orginally made this because I heard that many people look at dozens of houses and I wanted to be able to keep them straight. Lets just say.. I didn’t even use the worksheet.
Two thursdays ago was our first time “looking” at houses with our realtor. We stopped at house number one and both pretty much knew it was an instant no. Every house on the street was identical and they had a jungle growing in the front yard. Needless to say, I didn’t even get my worksheet or pen out.
After looking at that house -aka the jungle-, we moved on to house number two. As we pulled up to the house, we knew that we really liked the neighborhood. It would be a convienient drive to both of our works and is situated in a cute little subdivision. Aside from the “port-a-potty” in the front yard and lack of landscaping, we loved the outside. I should probably mention that the house isn’t finished yet and is still under construction (the port-a-potty will not be staying and landscaping will be beautiful).
We walked through the front door to the house with no floors, lights, etc. and really liked it. The floor plan is really good. When you walk in the front door, the dining room is on your right, and then you have your kitchen, breakfast area, living room, laundry room and half bath all down stairs. When you go upstairs, you have 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and a game room.
After we finished walking through the house with our realtor, we finished out the day by looking at one more house. It was really nice, but far from work and our minds were still on house number two. We decided to think about it for a few hours, then had a our realtor schedule an appointment with the builder so we could see how he planned on finishing the house. A few days later, we met with the builder and he basically answered all of our questions before we could even ask them. He was great! He even took us to a house that was similar to ours and let us see a “finished” look.
After an hour or so in the Texas heat looking at the house and going over details about was included in the house and what was an upgrade, we left with our realtor and went to starbucks to cool down and talk about everything. We told her that we were pretty much sold and wanted to put in an offer. She called him right there from starbucks and negotiations began.
After Starbucks, we went across the street to Lowes to look at appliances and just get a general idea of what we wanted in terms of a washer, dryer and refridgerator. When leaving we got a counter offer from the builder, and then came back with a different offer.
Later that night, after a few phone calls, we settled on a deal and were very excited! In the next few days, we signed the contract and the process kept moving.
Because the house isn’t quite finished yet, we get to pick out a lot of the fun details including the flooring, granite, backsplash, sink, hardware, etc. We are meeting with the builder today to pick out some of this and go over a few things. I can’t wait to get in our new house and share more with you about the process – especially pictures of it all finished!
