Its officially the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL here! Kevin is meeting all his students for the first time today and I am just so excited for him to start this new journey. We know that this year will be challenging but it is very exciting. Along with school days come those great afternoon snacks! I was and am a big snack person. I am always hungry about 3 or 4 o’clock for a good treat, so I thought I would share a fun Back To School Smoothie Snack Recipe today.
A smoothie is such a great option for a snack because it really has a lot of nutritional benefits and fills you up. Nutrition is more than counting calories; it’s about making each calorie count. And dairy does it! Dairy foods (cow’s milk, cheese, yogurt, etc.) pack a powerful nutrient punch with nine (9) essential nutrients, making them a healthy and delicious choice.
Berry Blast Smoothie
Ingredients
1 cup of low fat milk
1/2 cup of juice
1 cup frozen berries
1/2 cup of fat free vanilla yogurt
Recipe
Measure all your ingredients
Combine in Blender
Blend and ENJOY!
The best part about smoothies is that their are endless combinations you can make depending on your mood. Simply choose your frozen fruit, yogurt and liquid (milk and juice combo). Not to mention, you can even combine dairy, fruit, vegetables, and whole grains, all blended in one yummy glass.
With the busy season starting, as a parent remember that at 8 grams of protein per glass, you would have to drink 8 cups of almond milk to match the protein in just 1 cup of cow’s milk.
