Friends, it’s that time again! I have to say that I have loved the FriYAY lineup on Disney Junior this summer and I feel like this month’s Mickey and the Roadster Racer’s NEW episodes are such a perfect way to close out the summer months and welcome in the school year. I’m excited to partner with Disney Junior this month to share the positive message on the Power of Doing Good. As a mom, this makes my heart so happy because I always want to teach my children to think of others and be kind.
In the new Mickey and the Roadster Racer’s episodes airing August 25th, there is a great message of being kind to others and not being selfish. The Pets and Pistons Race gets off to a rocky start when Pluto and Butch ruin the competition by trying to upstage each other for attention. Once the two dogs realize their mistake, they get back on track and continue the race. It is never too early to start teaching these qualities to your children and in our house, this has come through promoting sibling bonding over rivalry. For a two year old (and even adults), it is easy to want to be selfish so instilling caring values is so vital. Here are Ways To Promote Sibling Bonding that we use:
Morning Kisses
Every morning, when Brooke wakes up, we give Brother kisses. Honestly, she kind of started this on her own. The first thing she does is go check on him if he is still sleeping and she wants to wake him up. She is always very concerned about where he is and what he is doing. It is super sweet.
Feeding Time Activities
We started noticing that Brooke was “acting out” during times when I was nursing Baby Kevin. Because of this, we try to have feeding time activities to keep her entertained and give her attention too. We will read a book together or I will turn on Disney Junior and let her watch her favorite shows.
Sharing
We promote sharing big time in our house and for the most part Brooke is pretty good at it. We have to remind her when she meets new friends and with Baby Kevin too. She is quick to share her food with him, so we have to be careful and try to explain to her that he can’t eat food yet.
Helper
Whenever we can, we involve Brooke in “big sister” duties. She helps us put his pacifier in when he is crying. She turned on his MamaRoo or BounceRoo. She takes diapers to the trash. And, she will even wipe Baby Kevin’s face when he spits up. It is so adorable to watch her be a little mama.
Co-Play Spaces
This is slightly hard right now, but we wanted to start this early. We let them play in the same places together so that they are use to playing with each other. Brooke likes to lay next to him when he is doing tummy time, and I try to hold him in her room when she is playing.
Singing and dancing
Singing songs and dancing are great activities that we can all do together that Brooke likes. These are fun activities that we all do together that create bonding. We tend to sing songs from Brooke’s favorite movies or Disney Junior shows.
Acknowledge Sweet Moments
We ALWAYS applaud and acknowledge sweet moments between the two. When Brooke gives Brother a kiss, we say “awww” or when she helps him get his pacifier, we say “thank you Brooke”. We highly promote these precious moments so Brooke knows how important they are to our little family.
Spend time together outside
This is a big deal for us. Brooke loves being outside, but it is so hard with a new baby. We have made time in our routine to all go for a walk as a family or head to the park. We want her to still have activities that she loves and it helps get all her energy out!
“Mommy time”
I highly believe that this is crucial. Each little babe should have one on one time with mommy and daddy. I try to make sure their are times in the day where I give Brooke my undivided attention. I want her to know that mommy can put down everything and have a tea party or dance party. I think this personal time makes her feel very valued and she loves it!
Bed Time Kisses
We have a sweet, sweet bedtime routine with everyone involved. We brush our teeth, say our prayers, then Brooke gives Baby Kevin a hug and kiss, then mommy then daddy. If Brother is in a different room for some reason, she will run to the other room to give him kisses. Its such a perfect way to end the day.
I know these are all little things, but I truly believe its the little everyday things that instill these values for life. That is another reason I love the Power of Doing Good intuitive Mickey and the Roadster Racers is promoting. Teaching your child to treasure nature, care for animals, and strengthen communities is so important. By doing tasks like recycling, bring toys to a pet shelter, or donating food to a food bank can make such a difference.
Be sure to tune in to every FriYAY morning on Disney Channel for all new episodes every FriYAY. During the morning block (6-10am), Disney Junior shows air on Disney Channel and typically, new episodes will air first on the Disney Channel. So, be sure to tune in EVERY FriYAY this summer for new episodes from your favorite shows like Lion Guard, Sofia The First, Mickey and the Roadster Racers, Puppy Dog Pals and Elena of Avalor.
