As a busy, stay-at-home working mom with a 3 year old and 1 year old, I don’t really pay attention to everything I eat throughout the day. And honestly, all the things I end up grabbing aren’t necessarily good for my digestive system, including sweets and the chocolate my kids nibble on. But that’s life as a busy mom, right? Did you know there are actually a few simple things you can do to have a better digestive health? Here are 5 tips I have found recently that really help me:
Stay Hydrated
Sometimes we forget how important the basics are, but its always good to get back to the basics. Drinking half your body weight (in ounces) of water helps counter the fluid fiber absorbs. So, someone who weights 120 pounds, should aim to drink 60 ounces of water a day. Water is so important to not just your digestive health, but your overall health as well. Make sure you drink plenty!
Take NEW Viactiv Digestive Health
NEW Viactiv Digestive Health is a deliciously different way to get your gut-strengthening bacteria. Viactiv® Digestive Health chews help balance gut bacteria by feeding the good bacteria you already have, and fighting the bad bacteria all in a delicious dark chocolate chew to help reduce upset tummies. Yes, you read that right, you can get better digestive health all by eating a dark chocolate chew! In other words, you get the best of both worlds: the Viactiv dark chocolates give you prebiotic fiber plus 10 billion cells of hearty, heat-stabilized Lactobacillus bacteria to strengthen your digestive defenses. It does all of this while also satisfying your cravings for chocolate, too (& it only has 1 gram of sugar and no fat!!). You can easily order Viactiv Digestive Health on Amazon here or check your local Rite Aid.
Eat On A Schedule
While this can be hard with little ones and busy kid schedules, eating on a schedule can really help keep your digestive system stay in top shape. When you can, opt to sit down for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks around the same time each day.
Snack Smart
While full meals can be overwhelming and hard to plan for, one way to help your digestive system is to eat foods with lots of fiber. Did you know that your body calls for 25-40 grams of fiber per day and the average diet tends to only have about 10 grams. I like to add a little more fiber to my diet by snacking smart. Snacks like almonds, apples, avocados, oatmeal, quinoa and blueberries are high in fiber and great for you!
Exercise Regularly
As a mom, I have struggled to get in exercise daily. However, I am now chasing after two crazy toddlers all day so that has to count for something right?! I also try to take the kids on a walk in the afternoon which gets them outside and gives me exercise. And, on mornings where I am feeling really ambitious, I wake up early and work out before the kids wake up. I have actually found that my days go much more smooth when I do this.
Did I mention you can easily work all of these into a simple schedule?! Just take a daily walk after nap time or after school with your kids. On your walk, bring your water and pop a Viactiv chew in your mouth. They are individually wrapped and very travel friendly! Once you get home, have a light, smart snack. This will help you check each one of these off your list! Be sure to join Viactiv on Facebook for giveaways and exclusive offers! What other ways to do you take care of your gut health?!
