Splashway Waterpark: The Perfect Summer Houston Family Getaway

Summer is for adventures, fun in the sun and waterparks!! With our flexible work schedules in the Summer, it allows us to go on a lot of family getaways and have a ton of fun adventures. Last Summer, we visited Splashway Waterpark & Campgrounds for the first time and were blown away by our experience. We instantly knew it was going to be a yearly tradition from now on. At only an hour and a half away from Houston, Splashway makes for an easy trip and the perfect Summer Houston Family Getaway!
However, Splashway is more than a waterpark. The campground is open ALL year round and is packed with family fun. I’ve been trying to think of how to accurately describe the feeling you get at Splashway and I keep coming back to a safe, family environment where you can relax, enjoy the outdoors, enjoy your family and just get away to have fun.
The CaMPGROUND
Whether you’re pulling up in an RV, assembling your own tent or choosing to spend the night in one of Splashway’s many cottages or cabins, there is something for every taste, style, and budget at Splashway’s campground. We are far from campers, so our little family spent the night in a cabin.
Each cabin comes complete with a kitchen, dining area, private bedroom, and bathroom along with an upstairs loft space that sleeps a large family or two or three! My parents and our little family stayed in the cabin together and there was still room for another family. My parents slept in the downstairs bedroom and us and the kids slept in the loft.
Not only does the campground provide you with a place to stay close to the waterpark, but it is an experience all in itself. The campground offers so many different activities for families all year round. When you check in, they provide you with a list of all the activities going on during your stay, so you can plan out your fun. During our stay, they had a movie on the lawn, water gun fight, campground decorating contest, baking contest, s’mores station, bible study, live band and more! There are fun life-size game boards, basketball goals, a catch and release fishing area, playgrounds and numerous walking and biking trails too.
The Waterpark
Splashway Waterpark is hands down, the best family waterpark I have ever been to in my life. Not only is it incredibly safe, but it is extremely clean with the friendliest staff. They play family friendly music throughout the park, christian music on Sunday and sing the National Anthem at Noon everyday. Their family values are so evident while in the park.
In terms of water fun, the park has something for any and all ages to enjoy the water! From a toddler splash pad area to high speed slides, a wave pool, and even a lazy river. My parents spent a lot of time on the lazy river and chasing the kids around the pirate ship play area. We all had so much fun! I was so impressed at how brave the kids were on the slides!
Food. There is also no shortage of delicious food! I am a wrap loving girl, so I had their chicken wrap every day, and I’m still daydreaming about it. The kids also enjoyed their dipping dots ice cream VERY MUCH. While, I am a big fan of Splashway food, they also allow you to bring in your own drinks and food if you would like! A ton of people were grilling in the waterpark grill area and having a blast.
Cabanas. We spent a lot of time in our private cabana off of the wave pool and it provided a great place for us to cool off in the shade and eat snacks/lunch in between playing. When going to a waterpark with such young children, having a designated shady space like this makes the world of a difference. They also provide you with a place to lock up your belongings while you are on rides and in the pool. I highly suggest renting a cabana during your experience, it is well worth it!
Overall, I highly suggest booking your summer getaway at Splashway! It is an experience our family will never forget and our kids are already begging to go again this Summer. I don’t think they are going to let us wait until next year, It is just so incredibly fun!
