Razor subscriptions are all the rage and so many people I know are switching from traditional in-store razors to razor subscriptions – not just because of the convenance, but because of the entire experience and quality products. Because of this, I set out to compare the Billie vs Athena Club razor subscriptions completely from beginning to end. Ultimately, I want to see which razor subscription is best for me and hopefully help any of you that are on the fence about them to make a decision easier.
So, lets’ dive in!
The Initial Order
When comparing Billie vs Athena Club razor websites, both were extremely easy to navigate and very similar. You can easily see all of your account information, as well as, stop and start the subscription at any time. You have complete control.
From Billie, I ordered their Razor Starter Kit for $9 which includes the handle, magnetic holder and 2 5-blade cartridges. I also added The Shave Cream 6.5oz for $8. This brought my total to $18.40 with taxes. After that, 4 refill blades will be $9. You can choose how often to have them shipped every month, two months or three months. You can also change this at any time in your account settings.
From Athena Club, I ordered the same thing. Their razor kit was $9 and included the handle, magnetic holder and 2 5-blade cartridges. I also purchased their 6.7oz Cloud Shave Foam for $9, so my total was $19.57. After that, the price varies based on how many blades you purchase. Price Structure: 4 blades every 2 months for $3/blade, 8 blades every 4 months for $2.50/blade, and 12 blades every 6 months for $2.25/blade.
Shipping & Packaging
Both companies have FREE SHIPPING, so that’s amazing and their shipping times were identical. I ordered them the same night and they arrived the same day. In terms of packaging, my Billie order arrived in a sleek white box with their bright logo. The products were in a plastic bag, and paper surrounding. Everything matched as very fun! My Athena Club order arrived in a brown box with navy logo. When I opened the package, it had an upscale feel and was in a luxury keepsake like blush box to match.
Now, on to the actual products. Lets talk about the handles, how they grip and the blades.
The Handle and Design
Billie: The Billie handle is incredibly lightweight, which I love, especially compared to my current razor. It feels like it is made out of a very lightweight plastic material and the grip is very natural and comfortable when holding it in your hand. The actual blade was different than I expected. It has a charcoal surrounding that really made the blade glide smoothly across my skin, so I really liked that. They offer the razor in 5 colors including multi color, coral, light blue, blush, and periwinkle.
Athena Club: The Athena razor is again, very similar but the handle has a little more of a luxury feel. It seems like the handle is made with more of a lightweight metal, but again its still very light. I love the modern look of the design/grip and it feels solid in your hand. The blade was smooth and similar to what I expected. They offer the razor in 6 different colors including light blue, blue, white, black, blush and coral.
And, most importantly the shave!
The Shave
The shave is arguably the most important part, so lets get down to business. I shaved each leg with a different razor and honestly they both felt identical. They were incredibly smooth and silky. However, the process of shaving was different. The Billie blade has a charcoal surrounding which made it glide smoothly over my leg as I shaved. It was a very luxurious experience. The Athena Club blade felt firm and precise as glided smoothly over my leg and left a silky soft feeling.
The Extras
Lets’ talk extras: I use shaving cream every time I shave so this is really important to me. The Billie shaving cream has more of cream texture that feels like lotion. I didn’t really like the smell of the shaving cream, but it did a decent job and didn’t linger. The Athena Club Cloud Shave Foam is exactly that – It felt like a cloud of foam and a little bit went a long way. I really liked the texture of the foam and it worked well. Again, I wasn’t crazy about the scent, but it didn’t linger after the shave.
Recap
Now that we have broken down every aspect of these I can think of, lets’ recap. Both the Billie and Athena Club have very similar pricing and the exact same shipping time. In terms of packaging, I liked Athena Club more because it had a more luxury feel. In terms of the handle and design, I loved Athena Club. Again, it just had a more luxury vibe and the design is more modern with clean lines. In terms of the blade, I LOVE the Billie blade. I really like how the charcoal surrounding makes the razor glide across your skin. However, the actual shave was very similar when comparing the end result. Then, in terms of extras, I enjoyed the Athena Club Cloud Shave Foam more because of the texture.
My Decision
At the end of the day, when comparing Billie vs Athena Club razor, both of these companies are amazing and in my opinion offer great products that I would be extremely happy with. If I have to make a decision between the two, I would choose Athena Club, because I feel like in the long run it would be cheaper. Although I love the billie blade, I feel like I would go through the Billie blades faster because of the charcoal surrounding. I also feel like I had to use more of the Billie shaving cream and would go through that faster as well.
It was such a hard decision, because these are two incredible products but I hope this helped you figure out which brand is for you.
