In the midst of our busy days, if we are honest, it can be hard to make time for our spouse. We have kids to take care of, appointments to be at, meetings to attend, and grocery shopping to do. Our minds are constantly moving to the next thing and rarely stop. We go and we go and we give and we give; we don’t slow down. So, how do we make time for our marriage, let alone transform it, amidst our busy schedules? Here are 5 Daily Habits To Transform Your Marriage that I think you will find easy to integrate into your schedule.
Check Ins
Take 10-15 minutes at the end of your day and “check in” with your spouse. This can be in the form of your “highs and lows” for the day or even just a time for the two of you to talk. You can do this while making dinner, while bathing the kids or even at night before you go to sleep. Take this time to listen to each other and engage each other in conversation.
Kiss Goodnight
Always kiss goodnight. My grandparents always use to tell me that this was their key to happy marriage and now that I have been married for six years, I can see how this rings true. Some nights, you aren’t going to like your spouse very much. Some nights, you will be mad at each other. Some nights, you will be exhausted. But ending the day with an I love you and a kiss says – You matter. Our marriage matters. I love you despite everything else.
Prayer
The presence of prayer in your marriage has the utmost power to transform your marriage in mighty ways. I cannot stress enough how much I believe in the power of prayer! Pray for your marriage, pray for your spouse, and pray with each other. If you aren’t sure where to start, I have written post, after post on this subject, take your pick!

I Love You’s
I mentioned always saying I love you at night and but make it a habit to say it on your way out of the house as well. Before my husband leaves each day, I make sure to tell him that I love him and wish him a good day at work. Our daughter now does the same thing, and it just really starts all of our days off with a smile and love. By saying this, I am letting my husband know that I am on his team, I’m his biggest fan, I want him to succeed and I love him so very much.
1 Act of Service
This will look different for every relationship. Do at least one act of service for your spouse every day. For me, I know that my husband likes our bed made so whatever takes place in the day, I try to have our bed made for him at night because I know how much he enjoys it. For me, he always tries to do the dishes or take Brooke upstairs to give me some “me time” when he gets home. These are little things that tell each other we care. Neither of “have” to do these things and he wouldn’t be upset if the bed didn’t get made, but the fact that we do these, shows love for each other.

While these daily habits are a great start, my pray is that your marriage would take the second highest priority in your life. My prayer is that cultivating your relationship with Christ would be first and then your marriage. If you focus on the first priority, all of the rest will fall into place. Seek Christ in your life first and foremost.
