I’m sharing #JOHNSONS in my life as part of a JOHNSON’S® sponsored series for Socialstars™
We started experiencing the dreaded diaper rash extremely early. Within the first few days of Brooke being born, she got her first diaper rash in the NICU. While there, they helped us learn different ways that we could combat diaper rash. Just like a lot of things in parenting, we quickly learned that every baby is different and responds differently, however, here are a few things that worked for us to combat diaper rash.
How To Combat Diaper Rash
Use preventative Measures
DESITIN® multi-purpose ointment
DESITIN® multi-purpose ointment is a patented white petrolatum enriched with vitamins A&D. We use this about every 2-3 diaper changes to help prevent diaper rash. It forms a protective layer on skin to immediately soothe and start to relieve minor skin irritations, such as dry, chapped skin and minor cuts and burns, and rash discomfort. This hypoallergenic formula glides on easily, goes on clear, and is gentle on baby’s tender skin. This clear, easy to apply formula makes it perfect for using at every diaper change to help prevent diaper rash from even occurring.
Find a diaper that works
We also found that certain diapers seemed to work better for Brooke’s skin as well. This took trial and error in the beginning, but we found the diaper that was perfect for her. This can be frustrating at first, but is so helpful when you find the right one!
Treat Diaper Rash
When diaper rash comes, and it will, its good to be prepared. We have DESITIN® maximum strength original paste and DESITIN® rapid relief cream. These are both awesome creams that work wonders. We use DESITIN® maximum strength for bad rashes. It contains the maximum level of zinc oxide, immediately forming a protective barrier to help heal and soothe diaper rash discomfort. The thick, rich, hypoallergenic, pediatrician-tested formula provides overnight relief for baby’s tender skin. There’s no stronger treatment available without a prescription. Then, once the rash is under control, we use DESITIN® rapid relief cream. It is a smooth and creamy diaper rash treatment that contains zinc oxide, known to block moisture from baby’s skin. The barrier cream forms a protective layer on your baby’s skin to soothe and relieve diaper rash discomfort, providing relief from the very first use. It is gentle enough to use after each diaper rash.
Refine Your Method
My next piece of advice would be to refine your method. As Brooke has gotten older, we have seen patterns in her rashes and certain foods. Be sure to pay attention to when your child has a rash and note any foods that might be causing this. You can then either eliminate the food from their diet or use the maximum strength cream before the first signs of a rash to catch it early. We also use water wipes while dealing with a rash, because normal wipes tend to irritate her bum more when a rash is present.
While this has worked so good for us, I know that everyone is different. What other tips do you have for combating diaper rash?
