Summer is the season of travel and this year for our family that is no joke! We have been on the road so much and with two littles that is a huge task. I have posted a lot about how to travel with toddlers and other tips and tricks, so now I wanted to share our Travel Must Haves With Young Kids! Before all of our travel started this summer, I ran to buybuy BABY and picked up our travel essentials. I know I mention this every time, but buybuy BABY is my absolute favorite. Their staff is so knowledgeable and the store is always so neat and clean. It is such a joy to shop there. I may have even grabbed a ton of clothes Baby Kevin while we were there (i.e. an adorable under armor polo and shorts). Okay, back on topic, here are our Clarke Family Travel Must Haves With Young Kids:
Playard or Napmat
We travel with a playard for Baby Kev and a napmat for Brooke. I know a lot of toddlers sleep in a playard but for some reason Brooke started to hate it at about a year and a half so we switched to a napmat. She slept on a napmat for nap time when she was in school, so she was very use to it and didn’t blink when we set it up for her. Plus, a napmat is so easy to travel with.
Lightweight Stroller
While we love our double stroller, sometimes that isn’t always practical for road trips. We also have the best lightweight stroller on the market. We got it last summer for our family vacation and got tons of comments at the airport. It is so compact and easy to use. I highly recommend it!
Weekend Bag
Another must have is a good weekend bag for each of your kids. We have a ju-ju-be bag for Baby kev and a petunia pickle bottom bag for Brooke. Honestly, I love them both so much and its funny how they fit both kids style so well. You want a great quality bag that will hold up to lots of use and these brands are great.
Baby Carrier
If you have more than one babe, or even an infant, a baby carrier is a good idea. We bring the lightweight stroller for Brooke when traveling and I wrap Baby Kev. It is a lot easier for getting in and out of the car or even if we are making lots of stops. Plus, he LOVES it!
Toys
Toys are a must, especially for a toddler. I like to bring a variety of different options for Brooke to help keep her entertained, but not too many so we don’t overpack the car.
Books
Brooke also loves reading books in the car and I love it because they are quiet. I like to pack about 3 different book options for her to flip through.
Water Cup & Snacks
The famous water cup and snacks are a MUST! Brooke is always thirsty or hungry in the car so I pack extras. For some reason, she thinks I can just create water in the car from nothing so she gets really mad if I don’t have enough water. Pack extras friends.
I hope these must haves serve you well and don’t forget to pack their clothes and diapers! Plus, if you haven’t read my buybuy BABY diaper review, check it out! It will save you lots of $$$ on great diapers. Happy Travel Season!
Kim Kolb
YES! What is it about kids needing a drink! Michael is always asking me for water or milk. Most of the time he thankfully has his water next to him but when he wants milk (he is a milk kid!) I just stare at him through the mirror and say “you are going to have to wait buddy. Mommy doesn’t have milk in the car.” It’s cute that they think we are this all powerful mom who can do anything they want but it’s definitely not the case. When he is tired and not wanting to fall asleep he also asks me to pick him up. Again, sorry kid, mommy can’t pick you up and drive at the same time!
